1. They Only Meet Their Goals
Every company wants to exceed expectation, and engaged employees often adopt the same mindset. If a hard-working member of staff has stopped exceeding expectation and is now only meeting their goals, this could be more of a reflection on the business, as they may no longer care about working hard for little reward or recognition. If you notice an employee isn’t reaching the standard you have come to expect from their performance, don’t be afraid to sit down to see how you can help them to improve.
We bet even Beyoncé sometimes cannot wait for her bed during a fast-paced performance. No matter how much a person loves their career, they may long for the end of their day or to take their lunch break. However, if an employee is constantly watching the clock or continually complains that they cannot wait for the day to be over, they may be dissatisfied in their job. If they are counting down the minutes to the end of the day, it might be time to review your internal processes to provide employees with a more enjoyable place to work.
3. The Office is Too Quiet
A little office humor and chatter can create a fun working environment for the whole team. So, if you walk into a quiet workplace, which offers little conversation and laughter, it could be a clear sign of general unhappiness across the team – so you could have a mutiny on your hands if you don’t make any changes. You could therefore arrange team bonding sessions that allow people to get to know each other better, whilst proving you are a caring employer.
4. There is Little Input
Engaged employees want to propel a company into the future, so are more than happy to offer ideas, feedback and opinions, even if they haven’t been requested to do so. If you are receiving little feedback from your team members, you should aim to identify if they are unhappy with their roles and why. It could be that they fear criticism if they offer an opinion or believe their voice will not be heard if they present their ideas to management.
5. Look for Visual Signs
One of the best ways to identify if your workforce is unhappy is to look for visual signs. If they are constantly sighing, looking at their watch, appear bored or fidget quite a lot, it might be easy to see that their unhappy in their job or with the company.
If your workers feel happy at work, they will work harder and will remain loyal to your company, benefiting everyone in the office.
