Hi, good to see you. Good idea for a group. So often the 'family' we choose is more supportive and nurturing than the ones we were born to...
Yes indeed. It may take time to get folks here because we can't send messages to members or really promote groups. There are some bugs to be worked out I posted a comment in Friends As Family but it showed up as a blog by me for instance. It will be interesting being part of a site from the very start.I already see improvements here.
Was on the orginal EONS site. One of the members from there posted about this site on FB. Hope to find old friends and make new ones. Just need to keep moving around and get used to the lay out and tools. I'm looking forward to being here.
Hello, You may find some of your Eons friends in the group called that. Links don't work here yet or I would post it. If you look under All Groups it should come up. I am a member and there are many more there.
Nope, links still not up, I don't think copy and paste brings you there either.
I just tried copy & paste...and while it does bring you to discussion page it brings you to the page for old Eons folks. While I was on original Eons, I probably will just let my paths cross naturally with old friends...my closed ones from old eons I've stayed in touch with anyway on FB and elsewhere. While i'm at the upper end of Boomer Generation (67) i'm all about growth and adapting and don't spend a lot of time 'looking back' unless it's relevant to a current issue/discussion. I know many of our generation play online games with an eye toward maintaining sharpness of mind, apparently people don't realize that learning how to navigate and participate in various sites can serve a similar function. It can also help create bonds as people give each other tips. This site is not the most intuitive/user friendly I've ever been on...but a bit of exploring answered some of my questions---even found a tutorial on posting images. I hope we can be gracious with people who were oblivious to original eons, but maybe having 'come of age' for such a site now have stumbled on this one and not try to make it into our private preserve, or think we've got some extra claim to it because we were on old eons. There was a guy on old Eons who would often bring up that he'd been around when Eons started, usually in a way suggesting that the fact somehow gave his opinion more weight than anyone else's. (For all I know he's one of the 'staff writer' or 'Experts' (I have to giggle as if we won't find and share good articles about our concerns with each other) they have here. But I don't want to see us be like that.
My only real gripe so far---no edit feature. in first sentence should be 'doesn't bring you to discussion page'. Sorry.
I think some of our peeves have been heard and will be addressed, the edit thing in particular, so I hope that one is solved quickly. I think the reason people were so fond of Eons is because of the ease of use and strong friendships built there. Many keep in touch on FB, but there is something comforting about having a Boomer place.
i agree that site has been very responsive...and also that it is nice to have Boomer place.
I am planning to re-create my old group "Chit Chat Chums", was reading your conversation with interest. Looks like things are not as smooth as one would think for a site that had all this time to set up. Oh, well, will give it a try. Good luck!
The Boomeon staff seem to be taking it in stride that we are comparing everything to Eons, and making some changes to make the format easier to navigate for us. It's my understanding that no one on the Boomeon staff has ever actually seen Eons, so they have no idea how simple the format was for those of us who spent so many years on Eons. What Boomeon does know is that Eons went belly-up over financial issues and they don't want to do the same thing. I'm hoping that Boomeon will be willing to make enough compromises to make the format more like Eons, with the help of former Eons members who know the technical terms for things, while still maintaining enough of their original plan to make it a profitable venture for them. I personally don't know what it takes to make a site like this profitable for them, but if we knew, that would help us do some things, if possible, to make sure it stayed profitable for them. My fear is that former Eons people will give up on this site before giving them a chance to get some of the current issues worked out.
Very well said, Redpattikake - I could not have put my feelings into words better than you have. I am so impressed with how Boomeon responds so quickly to questions and suggestions about the site. They really are going above and beyond the call of duty to make us happy. There's no fear that I am giving up on this site anyway - I'm really liking it, and I believe it is going to be great, when all the kinks (well, most of them!) have been ironed out.
I agree with some of the comments made. Comparing this site to Eons is not fair to the Boomeon Team. I have developed a very nice relationship via email with one of their staff members and it is very easy to let them know of a glitch or something to consider adding as a feature. They do have their ears open to suggestions and they will respond to you fairly quickly. Let's give them a chance to adjust to our suggestions and for us to adjust to the differences in this site and what Eons used to be. It will take some time but it will be worth it in the end. Have a great weekend.
That is only fair fellamhg, thanks for stopping in.
Hey I am from the old eons . 2007 I am so thankful they have put things together in a new creation. I was terridear1 and treading lightly. Looking to see old friends but make some new ones equally. Following different interests. I have kept in touch generally with some old friends on Facebook but would really like to close my Facebook page if this works out.
Have fun exploring the site Windlover . I am sure you will find many of your pals from Eons and make new friends as well.
They do try and I have seen modifications allready. Yes they do seem to cater a little to us old EONS members but then I do think they did put it in their title to attract many of us to the site and it seems to have worked. It is much less user friendly but it is a good start. I'll be here a while.
Well Well what do we have here? Hello from you know who!
Hello Charles, glad to see you. I know there are some political groups needing your input. Welcome to Boomeon!
Of course I was a pioneer on the old site and yes, benefited from the experience in so many ways including changing my life and the way I live. Now another site which I hope can continue the best of what was EONS, the community and content that was created in those six or so years that the site was operating. As to immediate problems with the site, no editing and I find the font to dull to read, and yes, it is boomer eyes involved and navigation isn't easiest nor as intuitive as one might hope,,,but then again it is a start...if not a reboot....
I will be starting a trivia group when Boomeon becomes a little easier to navigate, which I am sure will be fairly soon. It takes time. I was Gramto3
Sounds good, I am still hanging in here at Boomeons as well so I will look for it.
Dejected unwanted Do you think I should cry A drunk moderator removed me Said in hot grease I should fry I did not make sense In her woozy head So off to the gallows I now should be dead Although she was doing The same thing as me She had the power I am sure you see And though she will tell you You can disagree It just may be true But she says not with me So I tell you be careful With your words my friend Because they will hang you Just like me in the end. A dedication to Facebook eons friends
