We started at Mosquito Flat trailhead, the highest trailhead in the Sierras at 10,000'. Our first night was very stormy at Ruby Lake.
From Ruby Lake we went over Mono Pass (12,000') to Summit Lake, which looked as if it was on the moon.
Bob pumped some water from Summit Lake
Our second night was at Trail Lake which had some excellent tent sites.
Bob, me and Dan on the trail before heading up to Pioneer Basin
My home for three nights in Pioneer Basin. We saw no one for four days.
Sunset from our campsite looking back from the way we came. The famous Fourth Recess is the canyon to the left of center.
We day hiked to the high point on a ridge north of camp. Our camp is at the far end of the long, convoluted lake.
There are many small but very pretty lakes in Pioneer Basin. This one was about 1/3 of a mile from our camp.
Badly sunburned lips
Our last night was at beautiful Golden Lake. Still no people.
Home at Golden Lake
Our last day started chilly and extremely windy. To get out we had to walk across a very steep and loose slope on a bare trace of a trail. That's Dan and Bob making their ways up.
