The best way to approach a person is to be friendly and smile while you’re talking to them. It’s much easier to be relaxed and confident while interacting with other people when you don’t have a crooked smile, people with naturally straight and white teeth don’t really know how lucky they are. Those of us whose teeth are not perfect will have to go through a lot to get those perfect pearly whites, but the good news is it’s never too late to get that beautiful smile. Brace yourself and let’s talk about braces.

Beautiful smile

Back in 2013, an interesting study proved that people with prettier smile and healthier teeth are five times as likely to get a partner than the ones whose teeth were crooked or stained. There is something about a pearly white smile that makes people more attractive, probably because a set of healthy teeth indicates that you have good overall health too. It is sad, but people will judge you based on the shape and colour of your teeth, and it does not come as a surprise that more and more people choose to do something about it and make their smiles prettier.

Teeth-related problems

While you might not be too concerned about esthetics, there are other implications of teeth-related problems which can severely affect your health. Not only do overcrowding, crooked teeth, overbites and underbites look bad, but they can cause some severe problems too. Malocclusion or misalignment of teeth can lead to alteration in the shape of your face, frequent biting of inner cheeks and tongue, speech problems (including a lisp), and discomfort when chewing or biting. There can also be some severe headaches and earaches, as well as teeth and gum diseases because such teeth are more difficult to clean even with dental floss and toothbrush.

The return of the braces

Sometimes people who wore braces in childhood need to get quality clear braces when they get older because teeth can move at any age. It may seem unfair, but sometimes things such as an injury, or simple teeth growth can move your straight teeth and you end up with overcrowded smile when you least expect it. Those who ignored their retainers in the past may have the need for new ones, but sometimes people just have mouths that change naturally. When your teeth move that doesn’t mean that they aren’t healthy, so there is no need to panic. When the time comes for you to take your braces off you will have a set of not only healthy, but straight teeth.

They are better than ever before

You might hesitate to get braces because you believe they are too expensive and too noticeable, but that is not the case. Braces have become better with time, and not just better, but also cheaper and much less noticeable. Today’s brackets are smaller and there are no bands that wrap around the tooth anymore, and metal braces are slowly being taken over by ceramic ones because of their cosmetic appeal. There are even plastic aligners that use no wires and contain absolutely no metal parts.

While some may hesitate to wear braces as adults, there is nothing wrong about it and you shouldn’t be ashamed. It just shows that you are responsible and that you are investing a lot of time and money into your own look. The process of teeth-straightening may be long, but the results will be enough to make you forget all your troubles. When your set of perfect teeth smiles back at you from the mirror, you will know that it was all worth it.
