1 1/2 cups butter

1 pkg, 8 oz., cream cheese softened

3 cups sugar

6 eggs at room temperature

2 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp salt

3 cups flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup buttermilk

2 tsp lemon zest


preheat oven to 325 degrees.  cream together the first 3 ingredients.  add eggs, one at a time.  beat after each addition.  add vanilla.  blend in flour, salt and baking powder alternating dry ingredients with the buttermilk.  pour into greased and floured tube or bundt pan.  bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.  serves 12


on a personal note...  i use about 1 tsp of poppy seeds when i make this really delicious pound cake and also i use a tad more lemon zest...  depends on your taste!
