About half of the population of the United States takes at least one prescription medication.

In round numbers, the estimate of people using prescription meds rose from over 2 billion to almost 3.5 billion in 2012.

Our Baby Boomer generation accounts for over 55% (ironic number, huh?) of these purchases.

Plus, experts estimate that 85% of all Baby Boomers purchase and use some form of vitamins, minerals and health supplements on a daily basis.

That’s a lot of pills.

That’s a lot of pills to remember to take.

If you folks are anything like me (let’s hope not) I bet you are challenged to remember to take your pills and vitamins at the prescribed times.

Darla and I do not take many prescription medications but when we have to we usually just leave the bottles on the bathroom or kitchen counters, out in plain view, in hopes that we remember to take them when we are supposed to.

In trying to stay as healthy as possible, Darla and I do, however, have an assortment of vitamins that we take on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, we have resorted to using one of those colorful “weekly” plastic pill boxes from the Dollar Store as our means of making sure we take the right vitamins on the right days.

I would venture a guess that you probably use the same routine to manage your pills and vitamins.

That’s not a very efficient system, huh?

Basically, it’s another “thing” we have to worry about every day?

Hey, it’s OK.

We are busy people.

So, you might ask, is there anything that will help me with this problem?

I thought you would never ask.

     Perfect Products For Baby Boomers

                  Vitality "GlowCaps"

In staying in tune with “Perfect Products for Baby Boomers” I came across a device from a company called “Vitality” that will help us bullet proof the way we take our medications and supplements.

This helpful little gadget is called the “GlowCap” and it was created in conjunction with the folks at AT&T.

The “GlowCap” device fits on standard prescription bottles and use light and audio reminders to administrate your scheduled medication or vitamin doses.

You don’t have to remember the “whens” and “how manys” any more.
The “Glow Cap” is basically a small battery operated mini-computer with a wireless chip that you program by product and prescription.

So, not only will the cap light up and sound alerts when it’s time to take a medication but, by signing up to the simple AT&T service, the “GlowCap” system will track your scheduled medication usage and support you with automated phone calls or text message reminders.

Every time the pill bottle is opened, the data is recorded and used to compile periodic progress reports that can be relayed back to the users as well as caregivers, doctors and family members if so desired.

You can even request refills, personalized reports and real time updates with the push of a button.

No more forgetting to take your medications on time.

No more looking for the bottles even if you do remember to take your meds.
This product has been around for a few years and has earned its stripes.

In fact, Vitality, Inc and AT&T were honored with a prestigious 2011 Global Mobile Award (recognizes excellence and innovation in mobile products, services and initiatives across the global mobile eco-system) for the “GlowCaps” by the GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association).

Again, here is a product that I find myself saying “Why didn't I think of that?”

This is a simple solution to a simple problem Baby Boomers face every day.

How could you go wrong with a product like this?

Scratch one more thing of my list of daily worries.
Once again, just let me clarify here that my discussion today about “GlowCaps”  is completely and absolutely unsolicited.

Like all of the reviews this week, I saw the product on line; researched it and saw that it fit a need that we all share and it looks like it does it very well.

Hey, if you have any products that you have run across that you think would benefit our fellow Baby Boomers, please tell us about them in the comments section.

Tomorrow, I’ll be bringing you even more cool products that are perfectly designed to fit the "active lifestyle" needs of our aging generation.
