General Douglas MacArthur was born in 1880. He was the general in the Pacific theater of World War II.  He received the surrender of Japan on board the USS Missouri and was the head of the Occupation of Japan. MacArthur went on to have a conflict with President Truman during the Korean War. Listen to his farewell address to Congress in 1951.

Actor Paul Newman was born in 1925. Some of my favorite movies of his include Hud, Cool Hand Luke, and The Sting. He won an Academy Award for best actor in The Color of Money.  Newman was married to Joanne Woodward from 1958 until his death in 2008.

In 1979 the Dukes of Hazzard was first aired on CBS. The television show ran until 1985. Stars of the show included Tom Wopat, John Schneider, and, of course Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke. The show was about the adventures of the fast-drivin', rubber-burnin' Duke boys of Hazzard County. Watch a documentary about the show.

The Chicago Bears won their only Super Bowl in 1986 when they defeated the New England Patriots 46 – 10 in Super Bowl XX. Leaders on that team included William “The Refrigerator” Perry, Mike Singletary, and Walter Payton. Mike Ditka was the head coach.

In 1992, my favorite team, The Buffalo Bills lost in their second Super Bowl appearance.  The Washington Redskins defeated the Bills 37 – 24 in Super Bowl XXVI. They had lost to the Giants the previous year and would then go on to lose two more to the Dallas Cowboys in 1993 and 1994.  No team ever lost four Super Bowls in a row!
